London born and based musician and multi-instrumentalist Zeb Samuels releases his EP, Vibration Exploration on the 21st of August. On the EP, one can find the exemplary, ‘Yellow’ track. Premiered via CLASH Magazine, the EP features Marc Cyril (who has worked with Joss Stone and Keziah Jones) on bass, Byron Wallen (previously worked alongside George Benson, Chaka Khan and Courtney Pine) on trumpet and flugelhorn and Mcknasty (who has worked alongside Kammal Willaims) on drums. The musician has seen support from a number of tastemaker publications, including the likes of CLASH Magazine, Magnetic Magazine, XLR8R, Electronic Groove and Decoded Magazine as well as airplay from BBC Radio 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson and Nemone, 5FM’s Kid Fonque’s, by Belgium Tastemaker Lefto and Soulection Radio’s Joe Kay. As a label owner, Zeb Samuels has worked alongside many rising artists, including the likes of SYNKRO, Djrum, Joe Armon- Jones, Congi, Geode and Ash Walker.
Self-confessed music fanatic, Zeb Samuels grew up in London. This allowed for an abundance of music at his doorstep which would ultimately develop his appreciation for a wide variety of sounds and eventually lead to the self-taught pianist operating as a songwriter, producer and vocalist. When discussing influences for the EP, Zeb Samuels cited to the variegated likes of Boards of Canada, Pink Floyd, Robert Glasper and LTJ Bukem. His own sound reflects these influences, drawing strong parallels to the likes of Yussef Dayes, Alfa Mist, Mansur Brown and Portico Quartet coming to play while at the same time, maintaining its own unique integrity. ‘Yellow’, in particular, can be associated with the likes of Kruder & Dorfmeister and Hidden Orchestra with their trip-hop influenced sounds.
Featuring three songs that each explore the different aspects of jazz & Electronic influences, Vibration Exploration is its own journey of positivity and light. The first two tracks of the EP act as a warm embrace, drawing the listeners in with their gentle soundscapes. ‘Yellow’ completes the EP, presenting the incredible drum compositions from Mcknasty and mystical melodies from Zeb to tie the track together. The song, intoxicating with its prevailing ethereal laden air, will leave a lasting and memorable impression on its listeners.
Speaking of the EP, Zeb Samuels gives some further insight to his fans: “I’m really happy to be able to present a purely instrumental EP that displays my exploration as an instrumentalist and producer. Writing vocal-driven music takes on a very different approach to my music and really happy with the outcome.”
